چکیده

With the sublime and ultimate aim of improving scientific research, OMICS, an international resource for both scientists and professionals in related field, is dedicated to increase the depth of basic and advanced research across disciplines. Besides publishing high quality peer-reviewed papers covering novel aspects and methods in Science OMICS Publishing Group is using online manuscript submission, review and tracking systems for quality and quick review processing enabling any article to be published in short time. The impact and visibility of the journal is magnified owing to its worldwide access for the readers across the globe while the same enhances indexing, retrieval power and eliminates the need for permissions to reproduce and distribute content. New additional features of this journal includesDOI-CrossRef, Digital Article, audio version, user friendly / feasible website translation to more than 50 languages and social networking for each published article. Focusing on different aspects of waste remediation and biodegradation techniques to improve the quality of environment the Journal of Bioremediation and Biodegradation is one of the leading journals with high impact factor by the above group thus making it apt to promote awareness and unveil the hidden aspect of bioremediation through mushroom cultivation. Mushroom cultivation is considered to be a good aspect to remediate industrial and agro-industrial wastes. “What are the prospects of mushroom cultivation”is needed to spread rapidly in the society and is the main aim of present article.

Bioremediation of aflatoxin B1-contaminated maize by king oyster mushroom (Pleurotus eryngii)

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is the most harmful mycotoxin that occurs as natural contaminant of agricultural commodities, particularly maize. Practical solutions for detoxification of contaminated staples and reduction of agricultural wastes are scarce. We investigated the capability of the white-rot and edible fungus Plerotus eryngii (king oyster mushroom) to degrade AFB1 both in vitro and in a labora...

Studies concerning the in Vitro Cultivation of Some Indigenous Macromycete Species

For long time mushrooms presented interest for consumption as food, as traditional medicine or in bioremediation, due to their nutritional, antioxidant, antimicrobial and therapeutic values. The valorisation of indigenous species of mushrooms both for research or practical applications is a goal for researchers all over the world and requires well characterized collections. Despite the importan...

Medicinal Mushrooms Cultivation through the Solid-state and Submerged Fermentations of Agricultural Wastes

The main aim of this work consists in screening the optimal biotechnology of medicinal mushroom cultivation from the solid-state fermentation and the submerged one by using different kinds of wastes coming from cereal crop processing as well as the agro-food industry. The both fermentation technologies were tested through the controlled cultivation of the medicinal mushrooms Ganoderma lucidum a...

Bioremediation of soil contaminated crude oil by Agaricomycetes

BACKGROUND One of the most important environmental problems is the decontamination of petroleum hydrocarbons polluted soil, particularly in the oil-rich country. Bioremediation is the most effective way to remove these pollutants in the soil. Spent mushroom compost has great ability to decompose lignin-like pollution. The purpose of this study was the bioremediation of soil contaminated with cr...

Overview of Mushroom Cultivation and Utilization as Functional Foods

I think all readers of this book belong to the former and not the latter. Knowledge of numerous new mushroom species has accumulated through time. The number of recognized mushroom species has been reported to be 14,000, which is about 10% of the total estimated mushroom species on the earth (Hawksworth, 2001). China is estimated to have about 1500–2000 edible mushroom species with 981 species ...
